Korean BBQ (Bulgogi) Marinade

I’ve been having some major Korean BBQ withdrawals since giving up meat.  How have I chosen to remedy this?  Experiment with bulgogi marinade on fish and tofu!  This marinade is super easy and all the ingredients are available in most grocery stores (the sesame oil might be tricky to find, but they’ll probably have it in the Asian foods aisle).

I also made extra marinade for the roomies to cook up some chicken and I was told that it was really good. You can also try it with beef, pork, or whatever protein can absorb the marinade! Happy grilling 🙂

Korean Bulgogi Marinade

(makes about 1 cup)

1 lb of your raw protein (thinly sliced beef, chicken strips, tofu cubes, fish filets)
5 tbsp soy sauce
2 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped green onion
3 cloves minced garlic
2 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp ground black pepper

  1. Place the meat in a shallow dish. Combine soy sauce, sugar, green onion, garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil, and ground black pepper in a small bowl. Pour over meat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Preheat a grill (indoor or outdoor) and lightly oil the grate.
  3. Quickly grill until slightly charred and cooked through.
